A diary of some of the walks this bunch of librarians take around the Gloucestershire countryside including some of the places we visit and maybe some of the pubs we end up in at the end of the walk.

New walks
Does anyone have any suggestions for new walks ? Some Autumn colour would be good or maybe you know of a good pub by the side of a canal?
I don't think we're up to mountains at the moment but a steep hill may be on.
All suggestions welcome

Offa's Dyke ( part 2)
Part 2 of the walk began just north of St Briaval's on the Wye. Walking through old woodland with moss covered rocks and trees bent into weird shapes we expected to come across a Hobbit at any moment. Poor Lorna was suffering with her back on this walk but soldiered on bravely.
Stopped for lunch in the lea of an old stone wall and were soon divebombed by Great Tits swooping in and out of the bramble bushes. Well our ornithology expert said that's what they were and we believed her.
Fortified by Sainsbury's tuck shop treats we continued to Redbrook. A strange place where the locals divest themselves of clothes apparently, leaving them in the little riverside park for visitors to puzzle over.
Having been encouraged by Ben and Jerry .....whoops sorry David and Jerry to visit The Boat while we were there how could we refuse? Access by footbridge across the river we had a nice half hour contemplating the meaning of life. Well Nicky Heather and Jane did, Lorna was left contemplating when she could take the next painkillers.

Next bit of Offa's
Saturday Feb 4th is the planned date of the next section of the walk. Not too sure where we're going yet but somewhere in the general direction of Monmouth. All this depends on the weather though ....will we get any snow? Time to get the thermals out just in case!
OK this one got cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances !!!

Challenge for 2012
The challenge for this year is to complete, or nearly complete, the Offa's Dyke Path. It might take a bit longer than the year it just depends on the rate we go and how we manage to fit it in.
Started on 15th January with the southernmost section. Okay we missed out the Chepstow bit but if we're deperate we can always go back and do that bit again.
Lovely walking weather and beautiful views down off the path to Tintern and the Abbey. Ended up in the pub at Brockweir where we met up again with David and Jerry also setting out to "do" offa's Dyke. Wonder which of us will get there first? Winners get the drinks in?
